I wasn’t sure but this mattress is wonderful. It’s soft and firm all at the same time. There was no smell and we are hypersensitive to smells. This was a great purchase. Worth every penny.

Probably the most comfort you can get out of a sleeper sofa
Update 2021-08-02: After over a year with this mattress, it’s gone pretty soft in the middle and no longer provides good support. I’ve tried to rotate it about twice a year. The mattress itself isn’t coming apart at the seams or anything, so it’s more of an issue of the foam inside not being able to maintain its firmness.So here’s the deal, I still think that it’s a decent mattress and it’s about the best you’re going to be able to do. It’s still way better than the spring mattress that came with the sleeper sofa; with that mattress you could feel every spring as well as the bar under the mattress. I just think that there’s only so much comfort you’re going to get out of a 4.5 inch (10cm) mattress. In my case, the real problem is that the sleeper sofa has little to no support under the mattress.So I’m bumping my review down to 4 stars (from 5). But for a sleeper sofa I’m still not sure you’ll be able to do much better. Anything firmer and the sofa may not properly close. I think the only solution is to somehow increase the support of the sofa itself, if that’s even possible…Original review:I was a bit hesitant to buy this mattress because it seems that there are a large number of fake reviews. But there aren’t many other options, so I went ahead and took the risk and I’m glad I did.Here are some more details, including responses to some of the specific complaints I’ve read in other reviews:- Durability – I wanted to put this first since it’s my biggest (maybe only) concern. For the price, I’m impressed with the look and feel of the mattress. But given that it is so comfortable out of the box (more on that below) I’m a bit concerned how long it will last; I recently purchased a higher end ordinary bed mattress and it had took weeks to break in before it felt comfortable. In addition, I’m also not sure how long a foam mattress will hold up to constant folding and unfolding, not to mention the fact that the mattress gets used just by sitting on the couch with the mattress folded up, due to the design of most sleeper sofas.- Comfort – The mattress is very comfortable, especially after it has expanded to its full size, which in my case took about 24 hours. To be sure, a sleeper sofa isn’t going to ever match a regular bed in comfort given the fact that you can only fit a thin mattress in it and the support underneath the mattress isn’t the greatest. However, this mattress was much more comfortable than the original mattress that came with my sofa and in my opinion is about the most comfortable sleep one could get on a sleeper sofa without adding any other toppers, etc.- Firmness – As I mentioned already, the mattress was very comfortable right away after it had expanded to its full size. This gives me the impression that in a range of soft to hard, I would say it’s close to the middle with a slight tendency toward firmness. I think the firmness helps make it comfortable given the lack of great support in a sleeper sofa.- Size – I bought the queen sleeper mattress, which seems to be more or less standard among sleeper sofas. I’ve seen a number of conflicting measurements regarding the size of this particular mattress, so I contacted the manufacturer, who gave me measurements of 72 x 58 x 4.5 inches. The mattress I received does seem to be about 4.5 inches thick and within an inch of the other measurements, give or take. It fit my Sears sleeper sofa perfectly.- Foldability – Related to the size, several reviews mentioned they couldn’t fold the mattress. I believe the thickness of 4.5 inches matched perfectly the mattress that came with my sleeper sofa. However, the original mattress is designed to be easily folded. This mattress is a tight squeeze when it comes to folding it back into the sofa, however as long as I fold it patiently and don’t force it I don’t believe it will damage the sofa. I would prefer a tight fit to a thinner mattress.- Layers – I did not take off the mattress cover, but I looked through it and the two layers seemed to match the size and composition in the product listing.- Smell – The packaging mentioned there could be some odour for up to 72 hours. I didn’t notice any odour at all, certainly not enough to bother me. I barely detected an odour only by pressing my nose against the mattress. This was in contrast to a memory foam pillow I recently bought where the odour was strong enough to bother me for nearly a week.- Mould – Some reviews mentioned mould. I detected no mould. But the way most sleeper sofas are designed, the mattress is underneath the cushions when folded up, so maybe something was spilled on the sofa and got on the mattress? It might be a good idea to purchase a waterproof cover to avoid water damage from spills.- Fibreglass – I did read in some reviews that the mattress contains fibreglass. From my understanding this is normal and is used as fire retardant. For this reason I wouldn’t recommend removing the cover unless there’s an additional inner cover underneath. As for me I’ll probably buy an external cover to protect the mattress and avoid having to remove the mattress cover at all.

Worth the spend
There seems to be a lot of mattress options out there for hide-a-beds and most of the offerings look to be from questionable sellers. I took a chance on this and was not disappointed.Replaced the pocket coil mattress with this mattress and it was night and day. Super comfortable and I don’t feel the bars any longer.I was worried about being too hot – not an issue. The mattress cover that it comes with seems to do the trick.Had I known how much better my sleep would have been, I would have turfed the supplied mattress long ago.Worth your money – you will not be disappointed.Edit: one thing to be aware of. This mattress will cause condensation between it and whatever it is laying in. After each use you should lift the mattress and allow to air dry before closing up your bed (assuming a hide-a-bed as in my case). I slept on this for 4 consecutive nights without folding up the bed and after 4 days was stunned to find a pool of water under the mattress.This is not sweat – it is simply condensation.I now place several beach towels under the mattress when I am going to sleep on it, removing them in the morning and allowing 20 mins or so for any remaining dampness to evaporate off before folding up the bed.Be aware of this or you may find yourself with some nasty black mold.

The cover is not removable for washing. The cover has a zipper, but the zipper has no pull and can’t be undone to remove the cover for washing. Why would the manufacturer add a zipper and then make it inoperable so that the owner can’t remove the cover for washing? Customer support was no help whatsoever. Ridiculous.

This was a fantastic purchase. We got a new sofa bed from La Z Boy, and initially decided to purchase an upgraded mattress, since everyone knows standard sofa bed mattresses are terrible and do nothing to hide the bar which runs across every sofa bed. They have two upgrade options – SlumberAir, which has a 4″ deep mattress on the bottom and an air mattress on top, or a 4″ memory foam mattress. Both options cost $400, on top of the cost of the sofa bed.After making the purchase on a whim, we came home, searched Amazon, and came across this option. We ordered it and were able to cancel the upgrade through La Z Boy.The package arrives, not surprisingly if you’ve ever had memory foam products, much smaller than you’d think. The mattress is vacuum sealed inside a plastic bag, which is then rolled up and put inside a canvas bag. The instructions for opening are included, but I’m going to repeat them here anyway. First, take the canvas bag out of the box. Then, use your hands (NOT scissors or any other sharp objects) to rip the canvas bag open at the seam. Unroll the mattress (which is still within the plastic bag), and put it face up on the bed frame you’re using. Then, using a pair of scissors, cut the bag open where there is plenty of unused space, so you don’t have to worry about accidentally slicing the mattress. Remove the bag, and let the mattress air out.They recommend letting it air out for a full day before using. We unfortunately did not have that option, and only let it air out for a few hours. Still, it felt fully formed by the time it was used, and there was no “new memory foam” odor. We’ve now had people as old as 65 sleep on it, as well as heavier middle aged people, and everyone who has slept on it has reviewed it to be very comfortable. No one has complained about it being too warm. Additionally, my wife and I slept on it for a night (we figured if we were going to have other people use it, we should be able to honestly tell them how it feels), and we were completely pleased. We didn’t feel the bar under the bed at all. Although the mattress is an inch deeper than the mattress which comes with the bed, we’ve had no problem at all folding the bed back into the sofa.I would highly recommend this to anyone who has a queen size sofa bed.

Arrived in two days and unpacked just as it was supposed to.With a mattress you just never know until it has withstood the test of time, but fresh out of the box it is a pleasant surprise. I was expecting a bad smell that just never materialized. I stuck my nose in it and yes, it smelled like foam, but there was no need to close the door and isolate it while it off-gassed. It started to expand immediately and after letting it sit over night I gave it a try and it was surprisingly firm, yet comfy. I got this for the sleeper sofa in the guest room so I’ve not slept on it myself, but at this price I am really surprised at the apparent quality of it.It is a little thicker than the inner spring it is replacing, yet it compresses just fine and fits into the sleeper sofa “hole” without problems.I see two tests in it’s future:1. I have a guest coming in a couple weeks, so she will let me know how it feels to sleep on it.and2. How will it fare after being folded inside the sofa for months at a time? I’m so hoping the memory foam will remember how it feels to be flat and I won’t end up with a weird crease or hollow down the middle.When I called La-Z-Boy about replacing the old mattress they quoted me $700 and a long wait-time for memory foam. This looks like a very good deal so far. Hope it passes those two tests with flying colors and I continue to feel good about the purchase.

Just received my Zinus sofa bed mattress (60” x 72”). I set it out on a bed for a day or two to expand to its full dimensions—which it has. I’ve asked several household members to give it the smell test, and no one noticed any offensive orders. I lied down on the mattress and found it to be supportive. I unzipped the mattress cover to inspect the high density biofoam; it was intact and seems to have a solid firm surface impervious to tearing and crumbling (unlike the previous mattress). I am pleased with the zippered mattress cover. It looks well tailored with quality workmanship—although I did purchase the 60” x 72” mattress pad with a waterproof backing. I’ve just placed it in the sofa bed frame to test sleepability and comfort, and whether or not I feel the metal support bar of the frame. I weigh 175 lbs and felt very comfortable and well supported on the mattress. The mattress’ firmness supports my body weight well and has enough give to accommodate the contours of my body. The high density foam offered enough thickness and support so that I do not feel any of the metal frame underneath the mattress. I cannot attest to a long night’s sleep since it is only used occasionally by an extra house guest. Over all I would say I am satisfied with this mattress, especially at the price.
