Textbook example of “You Get What You Pay For”
Like most people, i’ve struggled for years with pretty much every flavour of plastic chair mat known to man — a couple of which were supposed to be high-end “last-forever” options. And after seeing the damage done to all of them, I was, like many people, a little dubious about the thought of rolling around on a piece of glass. Well, all I can say is that this is no ordinary piece of glass. It is thick, perfectly clear and very strong tempered glass. Think automotive windshield. I’ve been using it for many months now on a carpeted home office floor, including a couple of times when I rolled off the edge, which I was afraid might damage it. Nope. It still looks brand new. When I ordered it, I followed advice I saw online, and also ordered replacement softer chair wheels designed for hard surfaces, which may be part of the equation, but they were not at all expensive. At the end of the day, the Lorell chair mat is definitely a premium option, but there’s absolutely nothing else that can touch it for smoothness and toughness. The only word of caution I would add is to take it very easy the first few days as you get used to the combination of wheels and chair mat that is pretty much frictionless. Highly recommended.

A glass chair mat?! I had the same skepticism.
I know – you’re sitting there reading these reviews about the glass chair mat & wondering how it could ever stand up to any sort of abuse. I was skeptical too. Like many others, I was done with the garbage plastic mats that all seem to break down over time. Not to mention they are never totally flat on top of a carpet. The solution? Yes – a glass chair mat! Many of you will be amazed & happy with this purchase. I’ll be perfectly honest – I’m a fat old dude using this on top of a plush carpet. It’s solid. While I don’t recommend it, I have accidentally dropped large & heavy metal objects on the glass mat. It survived, and didn’t chip. However, you have to be very careful & understand glass. Glass isn’t perfect – all glass has micro-fractures. It’s possible I’ve begun to compromise my glass chair mat, and one day it could shatter. I’m not going to blame this on the mat – it was my own carelessness for dropping stuff on it. So far, it has taken some abuse, as well as general wear & tear. I’m very pleased with it, and will purchase another if this one ever breaks. My only gripe – being smooth glass, it has a tendency to creep over time on top of the soft carpet. I have to pull it back every few weeks to the desired position. Lorell’s solution comes at a fraction of the cost of other manufacturers & appears just as durable. At the time of my purchase many months ago, there was only one option for the size. It was perfect for my use, but know that Lorell does make several sizes of glass mats. Search for Lorell on the internet & have a peek at their website for more details. I have noticed the cost has increased since the time I purchased this mat (selling on Amazon now for $149 Canadian), but I would still buy it at the increased price. I feel it is that good & is money well-spent. One last point worth mentioning – once you put your favourite chair on the glass mat, you won’t be accustomed to the lack of resistance. Take great care when moving about in your wheeled throne – it’s far too easy at first to slam yourself into your desk. Full disclosure – my chair has the standard plastic wheels and they roll & function just fine. There’s really no need to upgrade your wheels. I would imagine a chair with upgraded wheels would glide better & more smoothly – it’s hard to imagine as the difference between riding on a glass mat versus a plastic mat is night & day. I’m very happy with the product. Had I known it existed, I would have tried one years ago.

Great buy, sturdy and does the job.
Have a low to medium pile carpet, very problematic for my chair wheels to move through as it sinks in and create indentations that are hard to roll out of. Bought this over a polycarbonate one, because the price was pretty similar and I felt like glass is more solid and less prone to bending.Very well packaged, so good that I kept the packaging in case I need to move later down the line. The glass does a great job, looks professional and is easy to clean. I am concerned about dropping objects onto it by accident, but I guess it’s an exercise in prudence. It does glide on the carpet (I’m not using the provided rubber feet pads as it looks cleaner without), but it’s rather minimal (half an inch to an inch after a day or two) and doesn’t bother me as much to shift back.I’d rather have it glide a bit than deal with the hard indentations the rubber feet pads will leave after a year. Can definitely recommend, it’s a good investment and have no buyer’s remorse thus far.

Other use than a chair mat: seems very good
I use the Lorell Tempered Glass Chair Mat as a work – table top supported on a metal base. Because the tempered glass can bear weight, I thought this might work. And it does. It supports an oak table easel and my art materials etc. It’s neat and strong ââ good for working in a small space: good-looking, functional piece of glass.

PERFECTION
I’ve had the opportunity to use this for six months now and honestly, I have no complaints whatsoever. It has not cracked or chipped, my chair rolls easily on it but stays put when I need it to. I haven’t had to clean it once. I bought this glass mat to replace an older plastic one I had and this is 1000 times better. The old plastic one cracked over time and was hard to roll on given the thickness of the carpet I had it on.

One of the few things that will reliably damage luxury vinyl plank (LVP) flooring is hard nylon office chair wheels. There’s something about the moving concentrated point of force that dominates and peels the seams of LVP. So in order to not damage the gorgeous floors in our basement studio area, I decided a glass chair mat was in order. After some research I learned that thicker is generally better when it comes to strength, but that too thick of an edge can be a bad thing. I decided on 1/4 inch thickness, that 34″ x 46″ would be the ideal size, the purchased the highest rated version of that product on Amazon with over 500 reviews. That was this tempered glass chair mat and so far I’d say it was a wise decision. There were a couple more expensive models with the only difference I could discern being that they have more chamfered or graduated angles to their edges. While that would be a nice touch, I don’t think it’s worth double to triple the cost of this version. I was a bit concerned with the edges on this, as it is around a pool table, but it’s fine with these edges. The mat arrives in a large cardboard box, well packed with foam edging. It’s heavy (42lbs, I think), but not difficult to manage. It comes with 8 clear gripper discs. I installed 6, 1 at each corner and two in the middle along the edges, keeping 2 extras. They are truly clear and do a nice job of preventing slipping on the LVT flooring. They would not be needed for carpet.I will call out that the nylon wheels that came with the chair, and come with most office chairs, were very slippery on this glass mat. I spent about $20 on some rubber wheels of the same 2″ double style and they roll smoothly and surely on this surface. My only real concern is breakage by dropping something on it. This is a studio recording and rehearsal area and some of the mics and equipment are heavy, although they also tend to be expensive things you want to avoid dropping. The biggest threat is an errant pool ball. I’d have to be a pretty bad shot, but I’ve seen my friends do worse.Overall, I’m extremely happy with this purchase. I was concerned that any chair mat in this location would look tacky, but it’s incredibly classy and high-end looking. Consider this recommended.

I bought this chair mat over three years ago. I wanted to give it time to see how well it held up, but then I forgot all about writing a review at all, so here I am three and a half years later! This chair mat is an excellent product. It’s a nice, solid weight (not flimsy) and very clear. I definitely have put it through its paces. I sit here at my desk for hours every day, rolling from one side to another, and it has held up perfectly. I even roll a little off the side once in a while which makes an awful, scraping sound, but the mat hasn’t chipped even a little bit. I haven’t dropped an anvil on it, but I have dropped a big, metal stapler and it didn’t chip or crack in the slightest. This mat is very comfortable to roll on. It’s nice and smooth and the chair just glides across. What I hate most about plastic mats is that, eventually, an indentation will form and the casters give some resistance when you try to roll away from it. This chair mat being glass, it’s solid and sturdy and creates a solidly even surface no matter what.To clean, I just spritz some Windex on it and wipe it clean, and it looks brand-new again.I wish I’d started buying glass chair mats years ago. If you need one, get this mat. You won’t be sorry.

I absolutely hate those bumpy vinyl chair matts that they provide at most workplaces. They are better than carpet, but just barely. This tempered glass chair mat is just the right width and length to fit under my desk with room to roll forward and back as far as needed without the chair rolling over the edge. The surface is super smooth, so gliding in any direction requires zero effort. Also, it looks absolutely beautiful and sophisticated. The mat itself came with clear tabs to affix to the corners so that the mat stays balanced and in place. I have my mat sitting on a rug, so the feet came in very handy to keep the corners secure and supported since the mat hovers a few centimeters above the ceramic tile floor. I spend hours a day rolling back and forth over this glass, and it has not shifted, it feels very sturdy, even when I step right on the edges. My only negative remark, and this is not specific to this particular glass floor mat, but to glass floor mats in general, is that it is a bit of work to keep it spotlessly clean. Mopping it DOES NOT WORK. You pretty much need to sweep it first and then hand wipe with glass cleaner to a streak-free finish, just like with any window or mirror. Also, if you have it sitting on carpet, stuff will collect around the edges that you cannot catch with a vacuum (even with the attachments), so occasionally it may be necessary to lift the glass in order to vacuum underneath and around the edges. This may be a real hassle if portions of your desk sit atop of the glass. Obviously, this is nothing against the product itself, but just something to keep in mind. I still really love this mat. The price was very reasonable. I highly recommend!

I had one of those chair mats meant for berber carpeting in commercial offices in my home-office. They work ok on tightly knitted berber carpet but not so much for cut-pile or saxony which most homes have. After a couple of weeks I noticed a circle starting to form and I found it harder to move my chair to reach the desk or to my shelving. After a month, it became a choir to move on the chair mat. This tempered glass chair mat is wonderful. It has elegant lines and is nice and thick. No worries on durabilty. I’m now able to move freely about between desk and shelves without sinking/sliding back into that limited circle of mobility.
