Very impressed!
I’m not easily impressed but I am very impressed with this product and at a great price. It arrived in excellent condition. All parts fit perfectly, no holes out of line, edges were neat and even a package of spare hardware was included. Very easy to assemble and it seems very sturdy. It looks great! We’ll see how it holds up in future but I have faith that it will do just fine.

Great until I moved it.
The dresser itself is very heavy. I got it put together relatively easily by myself. I loved everything about the dresser. The shelves seem shallow in depth but they are a good size. I would have easily recommend this to anyone.A few months after getting it, it got moved to a different room and it had been moved without taking the drawers out, unfortunately. This, I believe, lead to its slow demise. Screws became loose and not sure what other damaged happened. The top and sides are bowing now (plants were put on top even though it says not to put anything heavy on top of the dresser.) The middle drawer does not sit on the tracks anymore. Not sure how long it will be till other drawers start falling off either.I plan to do some simple fixes to strengthen the top and sides, once I move again.I am on the fence for if I would recommend this product to someone else. Even with what has happened, I do still love it.

Difficult assembly, but worth the effort.
Assembly took one person three hours. However, this is a very solid and nice quality piece of furniture that is surprisingly heavy and sturdy. We were very surprised by the strong offgassing that made our bedroom smell like a strong chemical for several days (it was so strong that it made our eyes water – it smelled like a very powerful wood varnish). We are not especially sensitive either, so it came as quite a shock. It could have just been our unit since I did expect to read more about the chemical smell in the comments). In any event, the varnish smell abated after three days or so and we like the unit, given the price.

Parts fit wrong
It was ok to put together but for the weight of it I expected it to be a lot more sturdy. It moves even with the drawers in it and they don’t match up on the sides. The top sags so you can’t close the top drawer properly. I was afraid to move it when it was all together it felt like it was going to fall apart. I needed a dresser and this one won because I wanted the matching bed frame and side tables that I will still get. All and all it is an good dresser for the price.

Find other ways to waste your money
If youâre looking for ways to waste your money, this is one of them. With that said, I would recommend just throwing your money in the trash to get the same effect. This dresser has NO sturdiness and drawers will easily collapse. Also, the measurements are off, and your dresser top may overlap with the top drawer, making it impossible for the top drawer to properly close. Easily one of my poorest purchases.

Worth it!
Pieces are very sturdy! Take your time, play some music have a helper, if needed. Once you put once piece together itâs simple. If it doesnât fit donât force it. Call South Shore theyâre really nice about fixing any problems. The drawers are huge. The black looks sleek and modern. I bought 2 night tables, 2 chests and a bureau. I took the money I saved and bought a hot tub!Would buy againâ¦

Missing handles
It didn’t come with any metal handles and I didn’t even notice I was missing them until I spent around 3-4 hours building it myself.I was given some options on how to get the handles…1) Somehow take apart the whole thing and get a full refund (not possible).2) Get a replacement order (that means another 95 lb package) open it up, grab the handles and send back the 95 lb package again.3) Get a partial refund and am left with a dresser with no handles that I have to go make/buy handles for.Would probably give this dresser 5 stars if it wasn’t for this.

Priced well and very solid.
It was easy to follow directions and put together though it has many more steps than your basic dresser. With a better backing than cardboard and well assembled draws it will last a long time.

For $120, my expectations were definitely exceeded. True, some parts could have been made of higher quality materials (the drawer rails are plastic, the drawer bottoms are very thin and flimsy feeling), but I am okay with that fact since there is a 5 year warranty on it. Assembly was SUPER easy… I am a woman with 1 functional hand at the moment, the right being in a cast from surgery one week prior, and I put it together by myself in about 1.5 hours with just a drill, screwdriver and hammer. It doesn’t lean at all and it doesn’t feel or look lightweight, but I wouldn’t venture to put anything other than light clothing in the drawers. It’s in a room of thousand dollar real wood black mission furniture and it honestly doesn’t stand out too much, which is a good thing. For our purpose – extra storage space for undergarments, socks and pajamas – I am pleased as can be. I recommend this to anyone who understands $120 isn’t going to get you a one-of-a-kind high quality piece of furniture, it will afford you this nice looking and very functional extra storage space.

This south shore piece is not as bad as people are making it out to be. There are reviews saying that the assembly is difficult and that they had to go out and buy adapters for their drills… what?! I literally put this thing together with a hammer and 2 screwdrivers from my cheap $30 harbor freight toolkit, the assembly is not hard people. There are also reviews saying that these drawers do not hold alot of weight, which is true. Unfortunately, it doesn’t say in the product description when you look for it, but in the manual, the stated weight capacities for the drawers is 25 lbs each. So fair warning, if you are one of those people who like to cram as much stuff into the drawers as possible, this product won’t last long. South shore needs to update the product description to include the drawer weight capacity. I just wanted to address the other reviews that I thought were bogus. For me, the only issue I personally had was that one of the screws provided with the handle for the drawers was too short. Thankfully, South Shores provides a baggy with spare parts. I found a screw that wasnt a direct match, but it fit. Easy peasy. I bought a south shores dresser 3 years ago and it has lasted me nicely, that’s why I decided to get another south shore product. They are modern looking furniture for really cheap. Treat them well and it will last

OK, a few things about this product. First of all, while it’s not *super* solid, it’s really not bad at all, certainly not given the price. But the person in the currently most-helpful review has it exactly right, I think. You absolutely have to make sure the little cam shaft thingies are installed properly, and that can be easy to screw up if you’re not familiar with them. To reiterate: make sure the bolt is all the way seated in its hole, that the wooden pieces you’re fastening together are flush with each other when you start turning the cam, and that you turn the cam the full 180 degrees with a flathead screwdriver until it won’t turn any more, even with a little oopmh. If you don’t do that, you’re going to have problems. Also, it can take a little finagling to get the drawers seated properly in the dresser. When you’ve got it right, the top of the top drawer should fit neatly under the top of the dresser. It took me several tries to get it right. At least one of the pictures I’m seeing here look like the drawers aren’t really in properly. The thing does come in a zillion pieces and it is extremely tedious and time-consuming to assemble, but not too difficult. EXCEPT. It turns out one of the pieces I had — the back piece of one of the drawers — was drilled incorrectly. The holes weren’t in the right places. Unfortunately, this was the piece I grabbed for the first drawer I tried to assemble and you do NOT want to know how much time and confusion and frustration it cost me trying to figure out what the heck I was doing wrong that it wasn’t lining up properly before I realized that this particular piece was different from the four other supposedly identical pieces included in the box. Grrrrrr.I called the number provided in the assembly manual, and the company was very good to deal with. They answered their phone right away, on a Saturday. The person I spoke to was very friendly and helpful, made sure she understood which replacement parts I needed — I also broke some of the hardware during my fruitless attempts at forcing the issue — and said they would of course ship me the replacements for free. Since the the product shipped from them originally, they even had my shipping address already and were able to call it up. Very efficient. Assuming they’re as good as their word and I get my (correct!) replacements in a few days, I am impressed with their customer service. MUCH less impressed with their quality control.

Shipping was quick and the box came (luckily) undamaged to my surprise as it came via regular UPS with a shipping weight of 110Ibs. Instructions were very clear on assembly, only needed a screw driver but there are quite a few wood pegs that I used wood glue on for extra security and I recommend others do as well. One of our drawer bottoms came broken so we reached out to South Shore and they sent us a new one with no questions asked right away. Very short phone call even during the pandemic. Overall nice dresser only complaint is one of the drawers gap is off, but nevertheless a very minor complaint. Happy other than that.

I purchased this item on March 10, 2013 and received the chest about a week later. I opened the chest and discovered that there was NO HARDWARE what-so-ever. So I called them a day later (Wednesday March 20th) to request the replacement hardware. Fast forward a week (today, March 27th) and I still haven’t gotten the hardware. I call South Shore back, got the FedEx tracking number, and it wasn’t shipped until Monday (March 25th). I won’t get the hardware until April 1st. Almost an entire month after I placed the order. I won’t lie, I’m kind of pi$$ed.I purchased other furniture from South Shore and didn’t have this problem. I’m completely disappointed with the service. I’ve ordered things in the past (from other companies) and if an item was missing, they rushed it out to me. I guess South Shore doesn’t value it’s customers too much.______Update 1 April 2, 2013:To give an update:I received the hardware last night. I went to put the dresser together and I’m missing seven pieces of wood to put the drawers together. Maybe this is my fault for not checking when I was missing the hardware, but I sincerely thought there is no way anything else could be missing. I called today and was told I’d get priority shipping, but I guess we’ll see if that actually happens.I have never been so unhappy about something I purchased as I am about this dresser. Who knew that I wouldn’t actually be able to assemble and use the dresser for almost a month after ordering it. I’m completely astonished too. I’ve ordered their long 6 drawer dresser, night stand with the drawer, platform bed with drawers underneath and the headboard. All of it came with all of the parts. I expected the same quality with this dresser.I will say, some of these reviews say the wood is really cheap and doesn’t hold well. I’ll disagree with that. I’ve had all my furniture for over a year and it’s held up very nicely. I think some people are forgetting they’re not ordering solid oak. Putting the dresser together last night (minus the drawers) took less than 45 minutes and I did it myself. I’m not unhappy with the quality of the product itself, but unhappy about the QC process of South Shore and the fact that something could go out with SO much missing.I really wouldn’t advise against ordering the product, because I do love my bedroom set, but I’m still upset with the quality of service I’ve gotten on this dresser.__________________Update 2, April 11, 2013I got the missing pieces today. I was told that I’d get 2 day shipping. They didn’t mention that it would take 48 hours to process (from the day I called in, so really 72 hours) and then the item got stuck “over the border”, so I didn’t get it until today.2 of the pieces I received today didn’t have cut outs for me to use. Basically it was just 2 pieces of wood I could do nothing with.At this point, I contacted Amazon to request a partial refund, in which they gave me. I’ll be calling South Shore tomorrow and waiting, yet again, 2 weeks for the replacements. After all this I have such a bad taste in my mouth that I’ll never order anything from South Shore again.
